Outer Town of Juyong The Outer Town of Juyong, located to the east of the Pass, is actually the eastern gate of the Pass. Inscribed at the forehead with the four Chinese characters “Outer Town of Juyong”, it was built in the 18th year of Emperor Jiajin of Ming Dynasty (1539). It was an important pass for military defense and traffic route in the old days. As a result of erosion over all these years, the characters on the inscribed board have been obscure. The gate is built of bricks, upon which is a platform. There is a break at each side to join the walls of the Pass. The platform is surrounded with brick forts.
