  Looking toward Beijing Rock
To the east of the Juyong Outer Town stands a natural granite rock at two meters high and seven meters long. It looks less imposing these days, because the road is elevated. The rock was inscribed with three Chinese characters reading Looking toward Beijjing Rock. Standing upon the rock and looking southward, the 40-li Guangou region is piled with steep green mountains amid floating clouds. In fine days, people might see the Beijing town proper about 100 li away, thus winning the name. In 1900, Empress Dowager Cixi fled away from Beijing to shun the Eight-Power Allied Forces. When she passed by Badaling, she stood upon the rock and shed tears looking back at Beijing City proper.
